"I’m writing to express my appreciation for the improvement in my quality of life since I have been scheduling regular massage appointments. Over many years, I would schedule appointments from time to time when there were specific issues with my neck or back and after a few visits, I would feel much better. Nearly a year ago, I was again experiencing neck and back pain and again you were of great help, but continuing with the massage treatments every two weeks has made all the difference in the world! This regimen is keeping me free from pain and discomfort and has now become part of my commitment to being healthy and strong."
| Q: What is massage therapy?
A: There are many different Massage Therapy techniques. At Massage Therapy Associates we utilize a combination of Swedish massage, deep muscle massage, trigger point therapy and hydrotherapy. Q: Which type of massage is right for me? A: Your massage therapist will meet with you prior to your session to determine the best combination of techniques to fit your physical needs at the time. Q: What are the benefits of Massage Therapy? A: Whatever your age, occupation or health condition, massage therapy can enhance your well-being. Some benefits can include:
Q: When should massage be avoided? A: Massage therapy is not recommended for those suffering from acute inflammation, fever, recent injury or certain skin conditions. Your massage therapist is trained to assess whether massage is appropriate during a health crisis, and may ask that you consult your health care provider to determine any contraindications to receiving a massage. Q: What will happen at my first appointment? A: Your massage therapist will ask you to complete a brief health history form and show you to a massage room. After reviewing your reasons for seeking massage you will disrobe in private, lie down on the massage table and cover yourself with a towel and sheet. Your massage therapist will re-enter the room and begin your session. At all times, your comfort and modesty will be respected. Q: What should I wear to my massage appointment? A: You may wish to wear loose, comfortable clothing, such as sweatpants and a T-shirt. However, most people simply wear ordinary clothing or regular business attire, as their appointments are a part of their normal day. Either way, your massage therapist will take care to remove excess oil and protect your hair. Q: How often should I receive a massage? A: Several factors are considered in determining the frequency of your appointments. Your massage therapist will discuss your particular needs with you and determine the ideal schedule. Many people come weekly or bi-weekly, if they are experiencing ongoing stress or muscular tension. Q: How much time does a massage take? A: In general, sessions at Massage Therapy Associates last for approximately 50 - 60 minutes. Longer or shorter sessions are available as well. Q: Will my health insurance cover massage therapy? A: Sometimes, if massage therapy has been prescribed by your doctor or chiropractor. As individual plans may vary, we suggest you contact your health insurance provider regarding your coverage. |
